Unfair - Header-lilian-abel

This week we connected Lilian Kreutzberger to Abel Minnée and Lilian Kreutzberger. They answered each others questions about drinks and regrets.

Is it dangerous to dream of another life all the time?

abel

Nothing within your thoughts and dreams is dangerous unless it becomes obsessive, I think. Dreaming of other lives, whether it’s another life in the future or another life at this moment, is what keeps me going. Recently I have been (obsessively) reading, research related, about particular physical processes and pathways in the body. Career-wise, hadn’t I become an artist, I would definitely get involved in scientific research related to either that or to psychology.

I find it fascinating that something as mysterious as the human brain, happiness and behaviour can partially be studied and represented in models and statistics, but also how limited these tools can be at times. These ideas became a central topic in one of my projects: so other lives can definitely be integrated into current life or art-practice.

Does change improve my life?

abel

The ideal would be to live according to this quote (I mostly fail to do so):

“You are so young, so before all beginning, and I want to beg you, as much as I can, to be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves—like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you because you would not be able to live them. The point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” Rainer Maria Rilke

Does god exist?

abel

No. But I have to say, I sometimes truly wish I believed in something. This question reminds me of a quote by Dostoevsky in the Brothers Karamazov.

intervieuwroulette-SiteThumb

“For socialism is not merely the labor question, it is before all things the atheistic question, the question of the form taken by atheism to-day, the question of the tower of Babel built without God, not to mount to heaven from earth but to set up heaven on earth.”

Based on the type of questions you  ask, it seems like you could use a proper conversation. Hit me up, I will buy you a couple of drinks:) 🍻

What recent event in your personal life (past year) has found its way back into your artworks and how is this visible?

intervieuwroulette-SiteThumb

After a year of a restless-growing fernweh due to the pandemic, I’ve been able to travel again last year. My trip this summer to Georgia with Woody Bos & Cyprien Gaillard was mind bending, a dive in the deep unknown for me with (finally again) so many surprises and unexpected bends that I’ve been missing during lockdown times. It made me reconsider life in general next to my artistic practice. An experience that led me more outside of my own studio, getting to understand I’d rather start things from something that already exists out there realizing reality surpassed any form of fiction.

What is the best advice someone gave you?

intervieuwroulette-SiteThumb

Enjoy failure, see the beauty in failure and fall in general.

abel

If you were to start an art-movement which would contextualise your work, what type of movement would it be, what type of rules and inner workings /organisational structures would it involve?

intervieuwroulette-SiteThumb

I guess it would again have to do with this idea of enjoying failure, but perhaps mostly enjoy failing together.

abel

I am more and more realizing that I’m interested in the spiritual development an art piece can bring instead of it’s physical appearance or outcome in the form of sterile pieces for museums and galleries. The art world today consists of so many ego’s developing their own art brands, for me the surprising elements the outer world can give are far more inspiring. Doing art projects can open up unexpected new relations and experiences, for me far more important than constructing portfolios, I even think it’s sometimes important not to document things done and leave things unsaid.
