How did you sleep last night?
I didn’t.
What’s the most exciting unrealized project you have?
I badly want to shoot a feature length sequel to a docu-fiction I shot in 2020 called Ikoce Volume I. This film is about an uncanny and charismatic narrator who is searching for the meaning and form of a mysterious cultural performance speculated to have started after the second world war in Northern Uganda.
As the search unfolds, the film sonically and anecdotally questions the notions of kinship, cultural legacy and the slippery nature of memory. In this film, the cultural performance is actually never revealed. It’s more about the ride than the destination. But we do want to see the destination, right? So, the sequel, tentatively called Ikoce Volume X finally reveals the mysterious performance but in the most unexpected way!
I don’t want to spoil it, since it’s a project I hope to realise when the time and conditions feel right.

What’s the most radical work you’ve ever made & why do you think it was radical?
It’s in the making. Because it’s more radical than the previous ones.
What has been the most impactful (art)work on you as an art consumer?
The first funeral I have ever attended. I was 5 and not prepared to witness the smooth performativity of hundreds of adults. In my culture, funerals could be the only setting you can express yourself by screaming, shouting, and losing yourself without community pressure.
Death can be liberating from many social, religious, and cultural codes. Also for those who remain alive. Most impactful work ever… until I attended my very first Turkish wedding.
