Ayo’s practice enlivens unofficial and official archives, recognizing that no knowledge is complete until it passes through the body. With this engagement of the body as an archive, Ayo studies oral records, intangible forms of cultural heritage, and craft practices, among other sources, to build new narratives shape-shifting from sculpture, film, and performance. Having migrated from Uganda to the Netherlands in her youth, Ayo carries personal and collective histories pertaining to what she remembers about her homeland. These recollections are fertile ground for creating plural narratives in conversation with the cultural contexts she currently inhabits.
