Eva van Bemmelen
Eva van Bemmelen's work focuses on the essence of language. That language goes beyond words; it is about how we connect and interact with each other as human beings. How we shape visual and verbal characters. How we define ourselves as characters. Eva's work concentrates on the poetic revaluation of books and the literal characters they contain. With a background in graphic design, the constraints of structure and rules motivate her to question this. Her work explores different types of signage and reading directions. How do you read a book? How do you read a particular language? "I like to see language as a three-dimensional exhibition that the reader learns to navigate. In doing so, I play with typography: I deconstruct it in order to reconstruct it, so that it can be interpreted differently."
