Lakisha Apostel
Through performances that embody ritual, Lakisha Apostel explores themes of displacement and the longing for belonging, particularly how these experiences take shape in her homeland of Curaçao. Her work centres around offering new languages and methods to address the lasting impact of uprootedness.
Her practice moves between performance, ceramics, and embodied action, with the body functioning as both subject and medium. Central to her approach is the creation of sculptural tools that later become integral to performances that facilitate a reconnection between the displaced body and its surroundings. Through these gestures, she seeks to give form to the physical and emotional realities of displacement, tend to a historical rupture, forging moments of reconnection with a landscape that the body longs for.
