Lois Cohen
Lois Cohen’s work offers borderline escapism. Blurring the lines between fantasy and daily life, the artist creates worlds that both enchant and provoke. Her works appear staged and full of contradictions, confronting themes of womanhood, feelings of dissociation, and our relationship with artificiality, while retaining her innate sense of childlike wonder and girly aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from a range of sources, such as reality TV and cinema, fairy tales and true crime, TikTok videos and religious scriptures, she immerses herself completely in the chaos of today’s world.
Her works celebrate humanness, favoring eccentric individuals and countercultures, but also portraying those trying ‘too hard’ to fit in. She blends these characters into the dreamlike landscape of her own imagined reality, free from any constraints.
