Meryem Slimani
Meryem Slimani prefers to photograph her muse – her 73-year-old mother Najate Leklye. In bright colors and a colorful composition: a mother seen through the eyes of her daughter and the intimacy of their relationship.
She gets her inspiration from her two main loves and influences: Morocco and Hip Hop. Her photos depict life in a big city, life between different cultures, the balance between generational differences and the love between a mother and her daughter. Her work tends to sit at the intersection of identity, cultural memory, and lived experience translated through fashion- often shaped by questions of migration, hybridity, and belonging.
