Robin Speijer
Robin Speijer makes paintings where she explores the gray area between figuration and abstraction. She uses textile as a means to create compositions: it can take on an endless amount of shapes, whilst remaining recognizable as a soft and flexible material. With her paintings, Robin evokes a visual experience of the world close to her own, where her eyes constantly gravitate towards details. By exclusively using close ups
the material’s context is erased and the viewer's gaze is pulled in, as if the eyes are fingers
that have to feel and explore the depicted matter. Robin conveys a realistic illusion of depth and tactility, whilst preserving the painterly qualities that indicate the flatness of the canvas.
