Ellen Yiu
Ellen Yiu's artistic process resembles cultural foraging. Inspired by Taoism, Dadaism, and the vitality of primitive and craft objects, the artist embraces the whimsical traces of everyday life, holistic healing, and the idea of home. Her work defies categorisation, as she explores diverse themes through miniature formats and storytelling. Ellen Yiu believes in the presence of ambiguity and paradox as spaces where viewers can play. Currently, her research is inspired by Fluxus, and explores art intended for an audience of one. Seamlessly moving between mediums, the artist primarily works with textile, wood, miniatures, drawing and installation. Her work is guided by repetition, reproduction, collecting and archiving — processes that embody her understanding of life and purpose.
