Mickey Yang
Mickey Yang creates immersive multimedia installations that incorporate objects, videos, and performances. Some of her installations seem to come to life: the sculptures move, vibrate and rotate, frequently synchronous with narrative elements such as video and sound. Through her artistic practice, Yang confronts themes of image representation, astonishment, mass culture, the subjective experience of collective memory, and the search for material culture and craftsmanship. Her work is characterized by an underlying sense of humor and optimism. By employing manipulative strategies similar to those used in media and commercial advertising, Yang seeks to challenge and transform the way we perceive things, having us rediscover a sense of playful innocence.
