Daan Paans
In Daan Paans’ projects, dimensions of time play an important role. Key themes include the desire to gain an understanding of the transhistorical variability of image making and meaning-making. When starting new projects, Paans goes at it with a documentary approach. By means of artistic research the projects usually result in a number of works using various media with an undeniable emphasis on photography. Yet despite this initial documentary approach, in the final works fact and fiction are interchanged and the artist lets them come at odds with one another. Paans questions his subjects by taking images and contrasting them with one another, aiming to deconstruct the processes surrounding image- and meaning-making.
