Ruta Butkute (1984) was born in Kaunas, Lithuania and is now based in Amsterdam. She graduated from Vilnius Academy of Visual Arts in Lithuania in 2007, finished Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam in 2010 and was a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten Amsterdam. Among other grants she got the development grant from Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. Her work has been shown in numerous art venues such as the Contemporary art Centre Vilnius, Lithuania, Art Rotterdam and Bradwolff & Partners gallery in Amsterdam. Butkute participated in Unfair16.
